Answer and explanation: On May 7 1945, Germany unconditionally surrendered and ended the European conflict of World War II. As a result, Germany was divided into East and West Germany and they had this wall known as Berlin Wall between two sides of Germany. East part of Germany was ruled by communist and people living there were living a miserable life. People from both sides missed their loved ones who lived across the wall and when the wall was finally demolished in 1989 people were filled with happiness. Among those people Richard Pinard was a resident of East Berlin. He said that everyone had overwhelming feeling of relief and they were so much happy that finally they would be able to meet their loved ones. I tried to answer the question in easy wording so you will understand it well.

Pinard wept and the people cheered because the Berlin Wall was finally torn down and East and West Germany was once again united as one country. When the communist took over East Germany and built the wall, many fled rather than live under communist rule. Many had died attempting to do so because of freedom.
