What adds up to negative 6 and multiplies to negative 7

The only factors of 7 are 7 and 1 but to make it negative one of them has to be negative. And Since we're also trying to get negative 6 we now know that 7 has to be negative because -7+1=-6 (if it was the other way it would be positive 6) :) hope this helps you
