using a balance , students found the mass of a plastic tray to be 8.8 grams . then they poured iron fillings onto the tray and returned it to the balance and the tray and iron filling had a mass of 172.5 . what is the mass of the iron fillings?

Mass of Plastic tray = 8.8 grams

MAss of plastic tray and iron filling = 172.5 grams

To calculate the mass of the iron fillings we have to subtract the mass of plastic tray (8.8) to the mass of Iron fillings and plastic tray (172.5)

172.5-8.8 = 163.7 grams
