18 - 2x(4+3) =

combine like terms in the parentheses

18 - 2x(7) =

Multiply

18 - 14x (This is the value of the expression)

We can solve for x by setting it equal to zero

18 - 14x = 0
-14x = -18
x = -18/-14
x = 1 2/7
