Let the number of male and female be 3x and 5x

There are twelve more females than males

According to the above problem,


5x - 3x=12\\ 2x = 12\\ x = (12)/(2) \\ \boxed{x = 6}

Therefore, the numbers of male is


3x = 3 * 6 = 18

and number of female is


5x = 5 * 6 = 30

Hence, total number of people are


(30 + 18) = 48

There are 48 people in the party.
