Protozoan infections are highly varaible, due to which doctors must prescribe specific medications and cannot use medicines that are able to treat a variety of types of organisms, as they are able to do in bacterial infections using wide-spectrum antibiotics. This leads to the mechanism of each anti-protozoal agent being different from the other, due to the specificity of the organism it must target.
