500 x 10 = 5000. that's fifty hundreds, or five thousands.

So you have 5 hundreds (500).
Then you multiply that by 10 hundreds (10000).
Imagine those blocks we used years ago for digits.
Multiply 5*1 (5) and then attach the 0s.
You get 5,000,000
