Answer:

C

Explanation:

Given the 2 equations

5x + 2y = 29 → (1)

x + 4y = 13 → (2)

Multiplying (1) by - 2 and adding to (2) will eliminate the y- term

- 10x - 4y = - 58 → (3)

Add (2) and (3) term by term to eliminate y

- 9x + 0 = - 45

- 9x = - 45 ( divide both sides by - 9 )

x = 5

Substitute x = 5 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

Substituting into (2)

5 + 4y = 13 ( subtract 5 from both sides )

4y = 8 ( divide both sides by 4 )

y = 2

Solution is x = 5, y = 2 → C
