Why is the ionic compound NaCl (table salt) able to dissolve in a glass of the molecular compound water (H2O)?

The ionic compound NaCl is very soluble is water because it is a salt of a strong acid (HCl) and strong base (NaOH), making it a strongly ionic substance. This means that it completely dissolves/dissociates into the ions Na+ and Cl-. This is also the reason why it is considered a good conductor of electricity.
