Given the right angled triangle;

\begin{gathered} \text{The hypotenuse=15} \\ \text{The adjacent =9} \\ \text{The opposite side = x} \end{gathered}

Using pythagorean theorem, we have;

\begin{gathered} h^2=a^2+o^2 \\ a^2=h^2-o^2 \\ o^2=h^2-a^2 \\ \text{Where h= hypotenuse} \\ a=\text{ adjacent} \\ o\text{ = opposite} \end{gathered}
\begin{gathered} x^2=15^2-9^2 \\ x^2=225-81 \\ x^2=144 \\ x=\sqrt[]{144} \\ x=\pm12 \\ x=\text{ 12 or x =-12} \end{gathered}
