x=lebgth
y=width.
I suggest this system of equations:
x=2y
(x+4)(y+4) - xy=88
we can solve this system by substitution method.
(2y+4)(y+4)-2y(y)=88
2y
²+8y+4y+16-2y²=88
12y=88-16
12y=72
y=72/12
y=6
x=2y
x=2(6)=12
Answer: the dimensions of the original rectangle are:
length=12 m
width=6 m
