This is a false statement. After LaertesĀ storms into the hall and yelling that he wanted to avenge his father's death, Claudius soothes him by telling him that he was innocent and there is nothing to do because his father is simply dead. Claudius then convinced Laertes that avenging will be good, however, with the right person.
