Answer: Our required equation would be
\$1400+(3.5\%* x)=\$2800

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Amount of salary a salesman has = $1400

Rate of commission he received = 3.5%

On last month, the total salary = $2800

Let the amount of his total sales would be 'x'.

So, our required equation would be :

\$1400+(3.5\%* x)=\$2800

So, if we solved the above equation , we get our required answer i.e. the amount of his total sales :

1400+(3.5)/(100)* x=2800\\\\0.035x=2800-1400\\\\0.035x=1400\\\\x=(1400)/(0.035)\\\\x=\$40000

Hence, the amount of his total sales is $40000.

Therefore, our required equation would be
\$1400+(3.5\%* x)=\$2800
