Indian art before the 1900s was vibrant and would have various scenes of Indian life. They generally showed the incorporation of the court scenes, kingdom, and their flora and fauna. But, when Inida went under the British colonial rule India's art suffered from the supression of its identity. The art style that the British encouraged was romanticized and was to the style of the West. The Swadeshi movement was made to bring back the cultural identity of India's artworks in 1905, which created the Bengal School of Art.
