Hi there!

Since a deck of cards in total has 52 cards, and there is 4 different sets of cards, which are hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds, we divide 52 by 4 to see how many cards are spades. After that, though, we are not finished.

52 ÷ 4 = 13. So, there are 13 spades in the deck.

Now, since 13 is just 1/4 of the number of cards you have, there is a 25% chance you will pull out a spade from the deck of the 52 cards.

Why?

Because 1 divided by 4 = 0.25, or, 25%.

Hope this helps!

There are 4 suits in a deck of cards: hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs.
Therefore there are 13 cards of each suit (52/4).
The possibility of choosing a spade in a deck of 52 cards is 13/52 = 25%
