Mounted to the stub on the end of the crankshaft are two pieces of metal with a layer of rubber in between called the damper. The rubber cannot be seen from outside and so it is hard to observe and understand that it is called a damper. The total arrangement is known by the name of Harmonic Balancer or Harmonic Damper.
