when people discovered on remote islands are questioned about their economies, that are remarkably similar answers to the questions.

I think that your question is: what were their answers?

Remote islands all had the same kind of economy: traditional economy. This means that they didn't use a currency to mediate their exchanges but exchanged their goods directly. So, for example a fisher would exchange fish for crops produced by the farmer.
