The median of an ordered data set is the value "in the middle" of the data set.

If the data set has an even number of data points, the median will be the average of the two values "in the middle".

Since we have a data set with an even number of data points (6) and we have the value of the third data point but not the fourth, we can consider the following equation to find the missing value. Let x be the missing value, then:


(23+x)/(2)=30.5,
23+x=61,
x=38.

And so, the missing value is 38.
