To make this easier, rewrite the equation in descending order:

x^(2) + 5x = 36
Then, move everything to one side by subtracting 36 from either side
x^(2) +5x-36=0
Next, factor the equation into two binomials:

(x+9)(x-4)=0
Then, split the two binomials and set them both equal to zero.

x+9=0;x-4=0
Then, simply, solve for x by isolating it:

(x+9)-9=0-9;(x-4)+4=0+4 \\ x=-9;x=4
Your two answers are x=-9 and x=4

If you're interested, you can check both answers by plugging them into the equation.

Hope this helps!
