Answer: Spain and Portugal

The Treaty of Tordesillas (1494) was an agreement that divided the colonies of the Portuguese Empire and the Crown of Castile. The line of demarcation was along a meridian 370 leagues west of the Cape Verde islands. Although the treaty was respected by Spain and Portugal, it did not take other European powers into account. Therefore, it was generally ignored by other powers.
