Given:

Filled with 12 liter

Butterfat = 4%

Mixture butterfat = 2%

Find-:

How much 1% milk is added

Explanation-:

Let

x=\text{ Amount of }1\%

The total amount is:

=x+12

The amount of butterfat equation is:

1\%\text{ of }x+4\%\text{ of }(12)=2\%\text{ of }(x+12)

Solve for "x"

\begin{gathered} (1)/(100)x+(4)/(100)*12=(2)/(100)*(x+12) \\ \\ 0.01x+0.04*12=0.02(x+12) \\ \\ 0.01x+0.48=0.02x+0.024 \\ \\ 0.02x-0.01x=0.48-0.24 \end{gathered}

Then the value of "x" is:

\begin{gathered} 0.01x=0.24 \\ \\ x=(0.24)/(0.01) \\ \\ x=24 \end{gathered}

So, x=24 liters

24 liters of 1% milk required.
