This will be the numbers you are subtracting
52
-36=?

your model is

TENS ONES
5 2
3 6
the 5 and 3 are under three because they are in the tens place. The five is actually a 50 and the 3 is 30, the 2 and 6 are in the ones place because it is a 2 and 6.

RECORD LOOKS LIKE THIS

52 is 5 tens so you would put 5 stars which is this *. there is two ones so you would put two hashtags like this#. an example of 52 below

TENS ONES
***** ##

same thing goes to 36 3 tens and 6 ones

TENS ONES
*** ######

NOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM

52-36 is what? since you can't take 6 away from 2 you borrow a ten from the 5 to make the 2 a 12, so now it's 12-6. 12-6 is 6 and since you took a ten away from 5 you make it a 4 so now its 4-3. 4-3 is 1. so now you take the 1 ten and the 6 ones and do 10 + 6. 10+6 is 16 which is your answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope this helps
