To get the answer we need to divide 1/2 quarts by 3, so...
1/2 ÷ 3
To divide fractions we multiply by the reciprocal of the divisor. Since 3 is the same thing as 3/1, the reciprocal is 1/3
1/2 × 1/3 = 1/6
Each person gets 1/6 of a quart.
