When adding two fractions, if they have the same denominator, just add the numerators and preserve the same denominator. If they don't have the same denominator, perform any needed manipulations to first write them with the same denominator and then add them:

(5)/(10)+(8)/(100)

Multiply the numerator and denominator of the fraction 5/10 by 10:

(5)/(10)=(5\cdot10)/(10\cdot10)=(50)/(100)

Rewrite the fraction, so we can add 8/100:

\begin{gathered} (5)/(10)+(8)/(100)=(50)/(100)+(8)/(100) \\ =(50+8)/(100) \\ =(58)/(100) \end{gathered}

Therefore:

(5)/(10)+(8)/(100)=(58)/(100)
