To determine when the concentration will be 0.5 mg/l we must replace that value on the equation provided by the exercise and clear the equation for t.

To complete the solution we can subtract 20t from both sides and we obtain a trinomial of the form ax2+bx+c


\begin{gathered} c(t)=(20t)/(t^2+4) \\ 0.5mg/L=(20t)/(t^2+4) \\ 0.5(t^2+4)=20t \end{gathered}
\begin{gathered} (1)/(2)t^2+(1)/(2)(4)=20t \\ (1)/(2)t^2-20t+2=0 \end{gathered}
\begin{gathered} t=-b^\pm(√(b^2-4ac))/(2a) \\ So,\text{ for our case } \\ t=-(-20)\pm\frac{\sqrt{20^2-4((1)/(2))(2)}}{2((1)/(2))} \\ t=20\pm(√(400-4))/(1) \\ t=20\pm√(396) \\ t=20\pm6√(11) \end{gathered}
