a bill at a restaurant was $24.20 before tax. The sales tax rate was 0.05, and the customer also included a $5.00 tip. How much did the customer spend at the restaurant, in dollars?

First times the total by 1.05, by (1 + the rate of change which in this case is .05)
24.20 x 1.05 = 25.41
Then add the tip
25.41 + 5 = $29.41
$29.41 is your final answer
