given the following:

49, 49, 51, 47, 49

to find the stadard deviation

first we have to find the mean

the mean of a set of numbers is thr sum divided by the number of items

Mean = 49 + 49 + 51 + 47 + 49/5

Mean = 245/5

Mean = 49

\begin{gathered} \text{standard deviation = }\sqrt[]{(}x1-xavg)^2\text{ /n - 1} \\ S\text{ = }\sqrt[]{(49-49)^2+(49-49)^2+(51-49)^2+(47-49)^2+(49-49)^2\text{ /5-1}} \\ \\ S\text{ = }\sqrt[]{0\text{ + 0 + 4 + 4 + 0 /4}} \\ S\text{ = }\sqrt[]{8\text{ /4}} \\ S\text{ = }\sqrt[]{2} \\ S\text{ = 1.4} \end{gathered}
