Simplify all fractions. If they reduce to be the same fraction, then the fractions are equivalent.
Cross multiply. If the two products are equal, then the fractions are equivalent.
Get a common denominator and compare numerators.

The denominator. Say for instance, you have 4/12 and 1/6. They are equivalent.
