True or false: lone pairs of electrons around the central atom do not influence the shape
of the molecule.

The answer is false.


Lone pairs only affect molecular geometry if they are on the surrounding (B) atoms. A lone pair of electrons affects molecular geometry the same way another bond would: this is why ammonia has a tetrahedral structure. Lone pairs only affect molecular geometry if they are on the central (A) atoms.
