turn the denominators into the same number by multipling them
same to top as to bottom so
1/4 =4/16
1/8= 2/16
1/16 stays the same
add together to get 7/16

1st Step:We should first change them all to have a common denominator.
2nd Step:We should find the least common multiple
4×1=4 8×1=8 16×1=16
4×2=8 8×2=16
4×3=12
4×4=16
LCM is 16
