It is true that a suburb is a residential community that is dependent on a larger metropolitan area. The suburbs usually belong to a larger city, and are considered to be a more distant part of that particular city, but still dependent on it. Although they may have some independence, the people living in the suburbs still have to answer to the people living in the metropolitan area.
