1. "Jim is 2 years older than 3 times his little brother, Tommy." J = 2 + 3T "Together, their ages add up to 18." J + T = 18 J = 18 - T, so 18 - T = 2 + 3T 4T = 16 T = 4, J = 14 (which is 2 more than 3 * T)
