What is true about the Crusades is that the goal of the four Crusader was to capture the holy city of Jerusalem. While Jerusalem was in Crusader hands at times, in the end they had to pull back and return to the place where they came from as the muslim forces gathered in great number and were able to drive the crusaders back to Europe.
