When a paramecium uses ATP to beat cilia for locomotion, ATP breaks down to ADP and phosphate. The paramecium has some ATP-regenerating enzymes, such as adenylate kinase and creatine kinase. These enzymes are able to produce ATP using ADP and phosphate present in the cell. Thus, the products of ATP degradation are used of its synthesis.
