x-2=3x-4. Solve for x by first subtracting x from the left side (you want to keep x positive if you can). You then have -2=2x-4. Subtract four to help get x by itself and you have -6=2x. Divide by 2 and your answer is -3=x.

first distribute 3 to (x-4). that gives you 3x-12. Now your equation is x-2=3x-12. Now you subtract x from 3x. now you're equation is -2=2x-12. then add 12 to the left. You're final answer is 10.
