So, in order to do this we need to know how many pounds equal 1 ton.
1 ton=2,000 pounds.
Since we know this, than we multiply 6*2,000=12000.
So, the company makes 12000 pounds of steel girders or 6 tons.

That is 12,000 pounds.
1 ton = 2,000 pounds, so do 2,000 x 6
