It secured North Africa from Axis control. Through the efforts of the British and American forces, the Germans and Italians were defeated. It later defeated the Germans in Sicily which brought the Allies closer to their objective to liberate Western Europe from the Germans. It gave the Russians relief as they were heavily engaged with the Germans in the Eastern Front.
