When light encounters a barrier with slits cut it in it, the light will bend through the slits creating a pattern like that seen in the image. What behavior of light is responsible for this pattern?

Answer : The figure shows diffraction of light.

Explanation :

Light shows different phenomena. Diffraction of light is one of them.

Diffraction is the phenomena of bending of light when it strikes at the obstacle or any narrow opening.

In diffraction, when light encounters a barrier with slits cut it in it, the light will bend through the slits creating a pattern like that seen in the given image. a,b and c are the obstacles in the given figure.

A diffraction pattern can be observed in the screen F which consists of central maxima, secondary maxima and so on.

So, the correct option is (A) " diffraction ".

Diffraction, the slits in the barrier bends the light, as it has to change speed to fit through the slit, which causes the light to change direction, this is called diffraction
