Try to put all the x-es on one side and then find a value of one x. In this case:
x + 36 = 4x / -x (both sides)
36 = 3x / :3 (both sides)
x = 12

Isolate 36 by subtracting x on both sides
36=4x-x
36=3x
divide both sides by 3
x=12
