60% = 3/5 = 0.6

------------

V=Visitors

S=Students

--------------

(1) On a particular Saturday, 60 % of the visitors to an art museum were students:

0.6*V=S

(2) If 144 students visited the museum, how many total visitors did the art museum have that day?

0.6*V=144

Therefore:

V=144/(0.6)

V=240

Answer:

There were 240 visitors at the museum that day.
