If the distance from Jason's house to school is 0.5 kilometers then the distance from Jason's house to school is I think 500 meters

1 kilometer is 1000 meters. .5 is half of 1 kilometer. so that means you need to cut the number of meters in half as well. 1/2 of 1000 is 500 so .5 kilometers is equal to 500 meters.
