Evaluate the following y^2-5y+2

If y = 3, then you substitute 3 into wherever it says y.

So the original:
y² - 5y + 2

becomes:
3² - 5×3 + 2.

which is:
9 - 15 + 2.

9 - 15 = -6
-6 + 2 = -4.

-4 is the answer.
