Area of the whole rectangle = L * W = 32 * 20 = 640 square kilometres

Area of unshaded region = ( 5 * 9 ) + ( 4 * 1 ) = 49 square kilometres

the shaded region = Area of the whole rectangle - Area of unshaded region

= 640 - 49

= 591 square kilometres
