Let both numbers be x and (x +4). Since (x + 4) exceeds x by 4

Sum : x + (x + 4) = 32

x + x + 4 = 32

2x + 4 = 32

2x = 32 - 4

2x = 28 Divide both sides by 2

x = 28/2

x = 14

Recall the numbers are x, and (x +4): 14, and (14 +4) = 14 and 18

The two numbers are 14 and 18
