Answer: profound - deep. Let me explain to you. Deep is similar meaning to profound but it's informal. Mostly profound used to measure knowledge. I give you an example: If you find that a person is excellent at history of the Middle Ages, you can say that he has profound knowledge in history of the Middle Ages.
