Problem

Deyvi is comparing the weights of two groups of rabbits on different diets. In Group A, 7/11 of the rabbits gained weight. In Group B, 7/8 rabbits gained weight. He needs to record this information in a spreadsheet, which requires him to use decimals. Are both fractions in the table repeating decimals? Show your work.

Solution

For this case we have the following fractions given:

(7)/(11)=(7\cdot10)/(11\cdot10)=(70)/(110)=(35)/(55)=0.636363
(7)/(8)=(7\cdot10)/(8\cdot10)=(70)/(80)=0.875

And we can conclude that 7/11 is a repeated decimal and 7/8 NO
