At first, the KKK terrorized African Americans from voting. Eventually they became so extreme that they were apprehended by the law. The clan came back again after the First World War. This time apart from Blacks, they also harassed Catholics, Jews and other immigrants who they saw was a threat to their way of life. Another incarnation of that KKK came about during the Civil Rights Movement as they tried to clamp down on Blacks as well as anyone they don’t accept.
