Answer: 16 square inches .

Explanation:

Given : On a map, 1 inch represents 1,000 miles.

That means ,
\text{1 mile =}(1)/(1000)\text{ inch on map.}

\text{1 square mile =}(1)/(1000)*(1)/(1000)\text{ square inch on map.}

If the area of a country is actually 16 million square miles, then the area of the country’s representation on the map is given by :-

16,000,000*(1)/(1000)*(1)/(1000)=16\text{ square inches on map.}
