Gametes are haploid cells that fuses with another haploid cell during fertilization. For human being, the gametes are the egg cells and the sperm cells and human fertilization is the union of a human egg and sperm, which usually occur in the ampulla of the fallopian tube.

A gamete is a male or female sex cell. For example, in animals a male gamete is known as a sperm cell and a female gamete is known as an egg or ovum. The fusion of two gametes allows the production of a new living organism and this process is known as fertilisation.
