Jayson baked a pan of cornbread for a family dinner. He cut the cornbread into equal size pieces. At the end of the dinner there were 2 pieces left. Explain how you find the number of pieces in the whole pan of the cornbread if jayson told you that 1/6 of the pan was left. Use a drawing to show your work

1/6 of the pan was left, and we know that 2 pieces were left. So, 2 pieces equals 1/6. To get your answer, multiply 2 by 6. ( 12x6 ) This means the cornbread was cut into 12 pieces.

Answer:

In the below diagram,

First we take a grid having 6 boxes,

Where, the grid represents the total number of pans and each box represents piece of a pan,

Since,

(1)/(6)\text{ part of a pan}=2\text{ pieces}

\implies \text{ 1 part of a pan}=12\text{ pieces}

Hence, the total number of pieces in the whole pan of the cornbread is 12.
